MAR 7-12 Batik collection @ JCCC

Obama's mother's batik collection shown at Johnson County Community College

An exhibit of Ann Dunham's Indonesian Batik Collection will open with a reception from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, March 7, in the atrium of the Regnier Center, Johnson County Community College.

The exhibit will be on view through Friday, March 12, in room 270 of the Regnier Center. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, except for Wednesday, March 10, when exhibit hours will be 3-7 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

A lecture on the batik process by Jo Randolph, adjunct professor, interior design, JCCC, is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, in room 270 of the Regnier Center.

A resident of Indonesia and an anthropologist, Dunham, deceased mother of President Obama, was interested in and captivated by the traditional batik process. This exhibit of 22 unique textiles is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago, the Indonesian Community of Greater Kansas City, St. Louis Artists' Guild Board of Governors, Art Dimensions, and JCCC's International Education office.
